Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with melted butter or cooking spray.
Separate the Hawaiian rolls and arrange them in the baking dish in a single layer, slightly overlapping if needed.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and a pinch of salt until well combined.
Pour the egg mixture evenly over the Hawaiian rolls, ensuring all the rolls are soaked. Use a spatula or spoon to gently press the rolls down into the mixture to ensure they absorb the liquid.
Drizzle the melted butter and 1/4 cup maple syrup over the top of the rolls for added flavor and richness.
Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.
Remove the French toast bake from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
Optional: Dust with powdered sugar and serve with fresh fruit and extra maple syrup on the side.
