Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  • In a bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until smooth and fluffy.
  • Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract until well combined.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  • Spread the cookie dough evenly into the prepared baking pan.
  • Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until lightly golden around the edges. Let cool completely in the pan.
  • Once cooled, use royal icing to create a flag design on top: use blue icing for the canton and red icing for the stripes.
  • Decorate with fresh blueberries and sliced strawberries to represent the stars and stripes of the flag.
  • Slice into squares and serve.

Notes

For a fun twist, you can add sprinkles to the royal icing for extra decoration.
