Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 large onion chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes optional
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste
  • 12 oz spaghetti
  • fresh parsley chopped, for garnish

Instructions

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Drain any excess fat.
  • Add chopped onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes. Stir in minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  • Pour in crushed tomatoes and beef broth. Stir in dried oregano, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low, cover, and let it cook for at least 20 minutes, or up to an hour, stirring occasionally.
  • While the sauce simmers, cook spaghetti according to package directions until al dente. Drain well.
  • Add the drained spaghetti directly into the meat sauce and toss to combine, ensuring all the pasta is coated.
  • Serve hot, garnished with fresh chopped parsley, if desired.

Notes

For an extra layer of flavor, you can add a splash of red wine to the sauce along with the crushed tomatoes. This dish is also great for meal prep as the flavors deepen overnight.
