Ingredients
  

  • 1.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1.5 tsp baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 1 cup cherry pie filling
  • 2 cup powdered sugar
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter softened
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk, starting and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • While the cake is cooling, prepare the frosting by beating together the softened butter and powdered sugar until well combined.
  • Add the milk and vanilla extract to the frosting and mix until smooth and creamy.
  • Once the cake is completely cool, spread the white frosting evenly on top. Decorate with cherry pie filling, placing cherries in the center or scattered evenly over the frosting.
  • Slice the cake and serve each piece on a red plate for a festive touch.

Notes

For a richer flavor, consider adding almond extract to the frosting.
